Zoe, I just listened to your recovery podcast. Thank you for the inspiration. I only do ocr as a hobby, but I love doing it. I broke my back and neck in a work accident almost 2 years ago. After over a year of recovery I was excited to get back in the gym and to ocr. Well a couple of days after training on a mtb, I noticed a sharp pain resonating from my lower back all the way down to my left knee. After a few doctor visits and me trying to convince them that I didnt think it was sciatica, they did a MRI and finally diagnosed that I was pretty much bone to bone on my hip, and that it needed to be replaced. My orthopedic doc told me that after a hip replacement, I would not be able to do the things I enjoy, like my ocr, working out etc. She suggested, that if I can deal with the pain to keep doing what I like doing until I cant go any more, then get the surgery. With my back injury I can handle pain, so since my diagnosis Im working with a fascial stretch therapist and some great crossfit coaches. Ive gone from not being able to tie my shoe, to being able to do squats and lunges again, and also training for my first spartan since my back injury that I will be doing in April. I know im just prolonging the inevitable, but at least Im doing what I love. Anyways, sorry for the long post, I just wanted to share my sorta similar story, and thank you for inspiring me to keep going.
